But when that person forgets sometimes or that person is in some other important work or that person is on leave sometimes, then this may happen. In another scenario, there might not be any specific person to operate this switching. Due to this, another problem often arises is that street lights are not switched on even after sunset.
But what happens if this is the case and what happens if this keeps happening? Yes, as you are righly saying- there will be energy wastage. And this energy losses will lead to wastage of money. Normally if a street light of 40W is ON for 12 hours, then it would consume 480Wh of energy. It is about 0.48 units of electicity bill. If there are 10 such lights, it would be 4.8 units of energy in a day. If this happens twice in month, it would be 10 units per month. So in a year, how much shall you be paying? About Rs.1200 for 10 street lights. Meantime you are also paying about Rs.12000 (About Rs.1000 per month) to the person who is responsible to operate this. That means, for a set of 10 street lights, you are spending about Rs.13200 extra. If there are 10 such sets (100 street lights) in your village, you are spending Rs.1,32,000 (One lakh thirty two thousand) extra annually.
